Taiiku no hi (Il giorno dello sport)
This national holiday was established in commemoration of the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, the first ever held in Asia.
It is widely recognized that health, both physical and mental, is the most valuable treasure of a nation. In order to develop healthy bodies and healthy minds, sports are the most desirable, and almost the ideal means to do so. This is why this day was set aside to encourage the Japanese people to enjoy sports in whatever ways they can.
